Internet Marketing Webinars and Yes Set Sales Techniques
Just a quick one for you today on internet marketing webinars and how they use the ‘yes set’ to make you buy into the ideas or products they are selling.
Have you ever been on one of these webinars and they ask you questions that any donkey with half a brain would say ‘yes’ to before during and at the selling point?
If you answered “yes” then you may be one of the victims(?) of what is known as the ‘yes set’ in an online setting.
If you are not familiar with the ‘yes set’ it needs just a little explanation, all will be much clearer then.
The ‘yes set’ is designed to get the customer, reader or listener in this case to start finding agreement with the writer or speaker. This is done by asking questions or making statements that the potential buyer MUST respond to in a manner that maintains agreement with the seller. Here are a few of the dumb sounding (yet clever) questions or statements you might find on such an online internet marketing seminar that are designed to facilitate agreement…
- You want to learn to get tons of free traffic right?
- I bet you’de love to benefit from my 150 years of experience in getting traffic easily wouldn’t you?
- There are lots of pitfalls you need to avoid, would you like to get the fast-track and bypass these year sucking mistakes now?
- You have so much information overload you don’t know who to turn to, wouldn’t you like one proven system to follow that ensures your success?
If you said ‘no’ to any of the above, you have likely either got past the stage of buying shiny objects or you need your head reading!
Statements like this are perfect to get you into the mode of agreeing with the seller and finding common ground with them if they give examples of how ‘they too struggled with the same problem’.
Internet Marketing Webinars and the Yes Set: The Blatantly (Un)Obvious kicker
What do they do after they make a statement like one of the above? They actually have the gall to ask you to type ‘YES’ into the chatbox if you feel the same! Smart huh? The interactivity compounds YOUR problem as a mass shiny object buyer because you have given actual agreement in writing, that you want them to solve the problem for you. This increases the difficulty for you to say ‘no’ when it comes to time for you to make a decision as to whether or not you want to actually want to make the purchase or not.
One of my personal favorites is the old “I just want to make sure you can all hear me OK, if you can type ‘YES’ in the chat-box”. Of course they can bloody hear you! If they couldn’t, don’t you think hundreds of them would be typing “I can’t hear you!”? *sigh Just another lead in to start you on the path to saying ‘yes’ to them.
As a side-note, in my opinion many of these gurus get it very wrong when they try on this yes set technique. Why? They keep asking you to say ‘yes’, over and over again. This can begin to look suspicious to some people so including a negative agreement now and again will be much more effective. How about something like…
- I’m sure you don’t want to have to spend thousands of Dollars or months of learning time to find out what we can teach you in a few hours do you? Type ‘NO’ in the chatbox if you don’t want to go through that hassle.
Take home: Next time somebody asks you to type ‘yes’ into a chatbox, tell ‘em to piss off instead. lol
