WordPress Comment Spam, The Best/Worst(?) Ever Example!

(And the WordPress Anti Spam Plugins That WILL Save You Time)

Today, I got WordPress comment spam and it was one of the most blatant, terrible examples I have ever seen!  Was Joel Comm behind it? Nah, he wasn’t but it did draw some attention from the man himself, can’t say I blame the guy for coming to defend his self in the comments here however. I’d do exactly the same, perhaps not quite so elegantly however! lol.

Now, before I begin, let me just say that I admire Joel Comm, I have read his book ‘The AdSense Code‘ and I thought it was a great read but that is no excuse for Joel to spam WordPress sites! He didn’t, turns out somebody was trying to cash in on his good name by stealing his sales page!

See, I got one of the few WordPress spam comments I receive only a few hours ago. I don’t get too many due to a plugin I use (no, not Akismet but more on that later) that virtually stops spam in its tracks unless there is human interaction. Even then, it puts off would be spammers to an extent.

Even the Best Spam Prevention Can’t Stop Idiots!

To put you out of your misery, here’s the comment I got. I seriously think it is somebody using some sort of blog commenting software. Anyway, here it is…

The WordPress Spam Block, Put Their Neck on it and Bring the Axe Down!

Believe it or not, that collection of spam comments was JUST 1 SPAM COMMENT! Somebody messed up when they came here me thinks. hehe.

So why am I saying that Joel Comm spammed me? (I’m not!!! Just making that doubly clear here!)

I have no idea who this site belongs to, It does not belongs to Joel Comm so make sure you don’t buy anything through their site, you may end up getting ripped off. (If it stays around for much longer) Either way, play safe and buy Joel Comms books through my link HERE. :-p If you decide to buy through a lousy spammer who uses spam comment software rather than me… I’ll be quite offended.

Anyway, the site that said comment was linking to was e-adsense(dot)net. Yeah, no links for spammers here!

We all know Akismet, works like a dream (almost) as soon as we fire up WordPress for the first time. I’ll not go into this plugin further as there are dozens of tutorials online that will show you just how easy it is to use. Also there is no affiliate program so I have little interest in promoting it. (That was a joke guys! Laugh along will ya?;-) )

Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin

This is a great addition to your WordPress site that forces commenters to check a box before their comment even hits comment approval. It will seriously cut down the amount of spam prevention you will have to deal with personally. Check it out HERE. (It’s free btw).

Yeah, I guess that seems kinda odd but there is method in my madness. See, CommentLuv is actually 7 plugins in 1. The GrowMap Anti Spambot plugin is just 1 of it’s abilities!

To see an example of the GrowMap Anti Spambot plugin look no further that the comments section of your favorite website… YES! HERE! GRRR! That bit that says (at time of writing) “Confirm this is NOT a spammy 1 sentence comment”.

If that doesn’t put off spammy commenters, nothing will! They will likely attempt to leave 47 spammy comments in 1 go and then move on forever!
